FEMUSC em pauta

Tchaikovsky Orchestra brings ballet classics to the FEMUSC main stage this Thursday, the 15th.

Audiences can look forward to works popularized by Disney animated films.

The Tchaikovsky Orchestra—an ensemble formed specifically for FEMUSC by participating students—is a highlight of the event’s schedule this Thursday, January 15.

Starting at 8:30 PM, more than 70 musicians playing a wide array of instruments will take the stage at SCAR’s Grand Theater to perform excerpts from works by the Russian composer Tchaikovsky. Some of these pieces are likely to hold a special place in the audience’s hearts, having been featured in Disney animated films.

One such example is the “Waltz of the Flowers,” composed for The Nutcracker ballet and used in the soundtrack for the animated film Sleeping Beauty. The orchestra will also perform original excerpts from the ballets Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake.

Meanwhile, as part of the “Momento Springmann” series—taking place at 7:00 PM in SCAR’s Small Theater—a quintet featuring piano, violins, viola, and cello will perform a work by the Slavic composer Antonín Dvořák. The audience can expect a powerful, moving, and Romantic-style concert.
