Instrumental Classes – Teaching
Instrumental classes form the highest priority of FEMUSC’s Pedagogical Curriculum. Participants must bring studies and musical works at a high performance level and present them to masters of renown, experience, and knowledge.
Classes are conducted in groups where each participant performs for professors in front of the entire class, which may be modified according to the preference of the professors. In the String Quartet Program, classes are taught by the faculty of this specific program.
However, there is the possibility to attend and participate in classes with professors from the Orchestral Programs.
Solos – Individual Presentations
Attention: there are no solo presentations in the String Quartet Program.
Chamber Music – Small Group Presentations
Chamber Music is the cellula mater of musical art and forms the ideological basis of the String Quartet Program. The required interaction and the flexibility imposed by this musical modality empower musicians and elevate their artistic performance. Participants of the String Quartet Program must submit six work suggestions through their registration:
a) Three quartets from the traditional repertoire, including at least one from the 19th to 21st centuries and at least one from the 18th century.
b) One work representing the country and culture of origin of the quartet.
c) Quintets and Sextets: participants must also submit one work featuring extra string musicians and one work featuring extra wind or piano musicians.
FEMUSC accepts traditional suggestions and works from all periods of concert music, and also encourages participants to include works representing their cultures and/or underrepresented creators.
The Coordination will select works to be included in the official programming of the event.
Symphonic Groups – Large Group Presentations
Attention: participants in the String Quartet Program do not participate in the orchestras and other symphonic groups of FEMUSC. However, quartets are invited to participate in the FEMUSC Professors Orchestra. This participation is optional.
Social Concerts – Giving Back
Chamber music works may be scheduled for locations of social interest, such as Hospitals, Shopping Centers, Nursing Homes, Community Centers, and Churches. The objective of these presentations is to bring musical art to people who do not have the possibility or even the interest to travel to the SCAR Cultural Center.
This is an opportunity for participating quartets to develop their musical skills without the pressure of peers and professors around them, and also for a new audience that is unfamiliar with their art.
