FEMUSC em pauta

It’s this Sunday! Femusc kicks off Jaraguá do Sul’s 150th-anniversary celebrations with a historic concert

A highlight is the piece Le Api, in which the musician performs over 3,000 notes in just three minutes without pausing for breath

The 21st Santa Catarina Music Festival (Femusc) will take place this Sunday, the 11th, at 8:30 PM at the SCAR Grand Theater, officially marking the start of the events celebrating the 150th anniversary of Jaraguá do Sul and the 70th anniversary of the Sociedade Cultura Artística (SCAR).

The event promises a memorable evening featuring works spanning three centuries of global classical music. The festival’s opening will present a diverse repertoire, including Le Api (The Bees) by Antonino Pasculli, Oblivion by Astor Piazzolla, Sacred and Profane Dances by Claude Debussy, and the Concerto for Oboe, Violin, and Orchestra by Johann Sebastian Bach.

The highlight of the evening is Alex Klein’s performance of “Le Api,” one of the most challenging pieces in the oboe repertoire. The work requires the musician to play over three thousand notes in just three minutes without pausing for breath—a technical feat few instrumentalists can achieve.

“This is one of the most demanding pieces in the oboe repertoire. Pasculli created a true test of endurance and virtuosity that pushes the instrumentalist’s physical limits. It is an honor to perform it at the opening of this very special edition of Femusc,” says Alex Klein, the festival’s artistic director.

Festival establishes itself as an international benchmark

Femusc, considered the largest classical music festival-school in Latin America, brings together more than 500 students from nearly every Brazilian state and 21 countries for this edition. The program features over 240 free concerts, cementing Jaraguá do Sul’s status as a major hub for classical music education and outreach.

Klein—the only Brazilian to win a Grammy in classical music (five times)—highlights the festival’s importance to musical training. “Femusc represents much more than just a festival. It is a civilizing force that shapes sensibilities and transforms lives through music. Seeing young people from diverse cultures connect through art is what motivates us to continue this work.”

The selection of Femusc to kick off the celebrations marking Jaraguá do Sul’s 150th anniversary and SCAR’s 70th anniversary underscores the event’s cultural importance to the city. The festival—which turns 21 in 2026—has become a tradition that draws thousands of people annually and showcases the municipality on the international cultural stage.

The 21st FEMUSC is organized under the Federal Government’s Culture Incentive Law and features Master Sponsorship from Itaú, Laranjinha Itaú, and WEG. It is sponsored by Portonave, DR Aromas & Ingredientes, Auroracoop, Grupo Elian, Zanotti Elásticos, Porto de Itapoá, and Posto Náutico Farol; receives Master support from Operações Portuárias, Mime, Grupo Menegotti, Martinelli Advogados, and Unisociesc; and is produced by SCAR, FEMUSC, the Department of Culture, Sports and Leisure, the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents of Jaraguá do Sul, and the Jaraguá do Sul City Government.
