One of the most awaited shows of the International Festival, the concert of nations takes place on Monday (16); Karinah will open the event; Attraction will be broadcast live on the festival’s Youtube
Maestro Alex Klein, founder of the Santa Catarina International Music Festival (Femusc), has just announced that Russians and Ukrainians will be on the same stage at the Nations Concert, a show that will be held next Monday (16) at 8:30 pm. Considered one of the great moments of FEMUSC, the idea of uniting the two countries at war since February last year was considered by the conductor, who proposed to the musicians. “They are women musicians, who come together to show that differences only make us human and that art saves everything,” says Klein.
For the opening of the concert, the singer Karinah was invited. Recognized for her engaged repertoire, Karinah promises a lot of samba to represent Brazil at the Feast of Nations.
The concert, held at Centro Cultural Scar, in Jaraguá do Sul, is broadcast live on the festival’s Youtube channel.
Russians and Ukrainians end the presentation with the execution of the work ‘Black Eyes’, a Russian composition, with lyrics written by the Ukrainian poet and writer Evgeny Pavlovich Grebinka. The script still holds surprises that the conductor does not reveal. “It’s a secret. Bring the handkerchiefs, I’m sure everyone will get emotional,” he says.

Among the participants are the soprano Anastasia Pogorelova, the pianist Kristina Meliukhina, in addition to the oboist Aglaia Golubeva. Aglaia, better known as Glasha, was responsible for bringing the ‘Oboe de Caccia’ directly from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Moscow) to Femusc. “A privilege to have such a rare instrument and, above all, to count on the generosity of Professor Philip Nodel, who graciously lent us the oboe that was used in the opera ‘A Paixão Segundo São Mateus’”, said Klein.
In the concert of the nations of this 18th edition of FEMUSC, in addition to Russia and Ukraine, another 25 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, will be represented through their artists, who participate in the event as teachers or students of the courses available by the Festival-Escola, the largest in Latin America.
“This year we will have 200 performances, including the very concert of nations, three operas produced especially for the festival, MPB shows, orchestra performance, recitals and much more”, says the conductor, who guarantees that this will be the biggest festival since the launch, in 2006.
FEMUSC this year takes place from January 8th to 28th. For the selection of students, a call was held, which chose 800 students, from more than 1,600 entries received from 27 countries and 17 Brazilian states.
Among the teachers, FEMUSC brought to the 2023 edition the singer Jane Duboc, the Italian Simon Bernardini, a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the violinist Débora Wanderley, the gaucho piper Renato Borghetti, the pianist and conductor Marcelo Ghelfi of the São Paulo Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, among the approximately 80 participants.
