FEMUSC em pauta

Femusc’s inauguration show honors Vinícius de Moraes, Ary Barroso and Waldir Azevedo

Opening concert takes place on January 8 at 8:30 pm; Presentation will be broadcast live on the festival’s Youtube channel

The opening concert of the 18th edition of the Santa Catarina International Music Festival (Femusc) pays tribute to great names in Brazilian popular music. The always ‘poetinha’ Vinícius de Moraes, the sambista Ary Barroso and the master of the cavaquinho Waldir Azevedo will be remembered for his compositions. The show takes place on January 8 from 8:30 pm at Teatro Scar, in Jaraguá do Sul. Interested parties must collect tickets at the Teatro Scar box office for free. For those who are not in the city, the show will be broadcast live on the event’s Youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/user/institutofemusc.

“The idea was to remember these giants who, in 2023, would make their 100th birthday (Waldir Azevedo), 110 years old (Vinícius de Morais) and 120 years (Ary Barroso)”, said conductor Alex Klein, founder of FEMUSC. “We always have a very high expectation regarding the opening of the event, a moment that consecrates an entire year’s work”, he concludes.

For the tribute, the musicians and also teachers of FEMUSC take the stage this year Jane Duboc (Canto), Marinho Andreotti (electric and acoustic bass), Ramon Montagner (drums and percussion), Dino Barioni (guitar and strings) fingerings), Daniela Spielmann (saxophones and flutes) and the conductor and arranger Marcelo Ghelfi (piano and keyboards), who coordinates the MPB course at FEMUSC.

The expectation is that the repertoire includes classics, such as “Pra Hurt My Heart” and “Maria” by Ary Barroso; “Modinha” and “For the light of your eyes” by Vinícius de Morais; and, by Waldir Azevedo, “Brasileirinho” and “Carioquinha”, among other hits.

“On the 8th, we will honor these artists, composers who cannot be forgotten, Waldir Azevedo, composer of Chorinho, Vinícius de Morais, who in addition to being a composer and singer, was a representative of Brazil as a diplomat, a person who marked for his intelligence and competence, and Ary Barroso, who was one of the great Brazilian composers and who had a famous program on Rádio Tupi, in which Elza Soares appeared”, says Marcelo Ghelfi.

According to Ghelfi, during the festival, other musicians, such as Dori Caymmi, Marcos Valle, Edu Lobo, who turn 80 in 2023, in addition to Elis Regina, Elza Soares and Gal Costa, also honored.

With this year’s tributes, FEMUSC continues the tributes that are already a tradition of the festival. In the 17th edition, in January 2022, for example, Elza Soares (deceased on January 20 of last year), Tom Jobim, Dorival Caymmi, João Gilberto and Dona Ivone Lara were remembered for the MPB presentations of the festival.
