The Opera The Wedding of Figaro, which will be presented by students and professors of the FEMUSC International Festival next Friday, 28/01, is being produced with recyclables and reusing the leftover material from the industry and commerce of Jaraguá do Sul, in Santa Catarina.
More than 500 kilos of materials have already been donated by seven companies in the city. The products are leftovers from the manufacture of hats and clothes, in addition to a high-tech synthetic fabric offered by a paraglider manufacturer (free flight equipment), which will compose the entire scenario of the musical presentation.
The singers’ wig, for example, is being produced with a 5-liter pet bottle together with reused felt; The artists’ hair curls are the result of an artistic work made with PVC used to exhibit products on supermarket shelves.
The complete idea of sustainability is from the costume designer and scenographer of Femusc, Márcio Paloschi, who explains: “I do research on the depletion of the materials, that is, I study the product and imagine all the possibilities of use. I give the material another meaning, it is a creative and sustainable ecosystem”, details Paloschi.
The costume designer also applies the so-called “upcycling” to the clothes of opera artists. The practice is known for creating new products without disintegrating old parts. In the case of The Wedding of Figaro, women’s skirts from previous shows have become the covers of dresses for the new characters.
“This chain of resignification and reuse is fundamental for the environment and I apply it since I am young, when I participated in ecological education congresses”, recalls Paloschi.
After the show, part of the material used in the opera will be sent to a samba school in Rio Janeiro and an NGO in Jaraguá do Sul that produces layettes for children.
“The circular economy does not stop here”, concludes the professional.
