With a solid musical background, Paulo Mandarino stands out in the operatic world as an interpreter of roles ranging from the classical repertoire to verismo. A recipient of the Virtuose Grant—awarded by the Ministry of Culture to established professionals—he honed his craft at the Accademia Lirica Italiana in Milan under tenor Pier-Miranda Ferraro.
He has performed in concerts in Paris, Milan, Rome, Vienna, and Budapest. His professional debut was as Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in his hometown, Brasília.
Since then, he has brought to the stage roles such as Rodolfo (La Bohème), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Cavaradossi (Tosca), and Calaf (Turandot) by Puccini; Idomeneo (Mozart’s Idomeneo); Radames (Aida), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), and the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) by Verdi; Oedipus (Stravinsky); Hoffmann (Offenbach); and Faust (Berlioz). As a concert artist, Mandarino has distinguished himself in performances of Verdi’s Requiem and Inno delle Nazioni; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9; Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde and Symphony No. 8; and Handel’s Messiah, among other works.
He frequently performs at major Brazilian venues, including the Theatres Municipal of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Sala São Paulo, Teatro Amazonas, and the Palácio das Artes.
