Kismara Pezzati is a Brazilian mezzo-soprano who has become a naturalized Swiss citizen. Currently one of the most internationally acclaimed Brazilian opera singers, Kismara Pezzati—a native of Curitiba—began her vocal and theatrical training in Brazil, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Voice from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná under the guidance of Neyde Thomas. She continued her studies in Germany, obtaining a Master’s degree in Opera and Concert Performance from the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin (studying with Norma Sharp and Julia Varady), and specialized in opera at the Zurich Opera Studio in Switzerland, where she was subsequently engaged as a resident soloist for three seasons.
Driven by an innate need for new challenges, Kismara has firmly established herself on the international stage over the years, performing in both operas and concerts across England, Switzerland, Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Japan, Italy, the Czech Republic, Russia, Colombia, Venezuela, Uruguay, and Brazil. Kismara Pessatti has performed at major theaters and concert halls, such as the Gran Teatro del Liceu (Barcelona), Gran Teatro La Fenice (Venice), Royal Festival Hall (London), Bunkamura Orchard Hall (Tokyo), Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Berliner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Aalto Theater and Philharmonie in Essen (Germany), Opernhaus Zürich, Tonhalle Zürich, KKL in Lucerne, Salle de La Musique in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva (Switzerland), Opéra-Théâtre de St-Etienne (France), Teatro Municipal de Bogotá with the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra (Colombia), Sala Simón Bolívar in Caracas (Venezuela), International House of Music in Moscow (Russia), Teatro Petruzzelli (Bari, Italy), Teatro Solís (Montevideo), Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Teatro Amazonas, Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, and Theatro São Pedro in São Paulo, among others.
She has appeared as a guest soloist in Manuel de Falla’s El Amor Brujo with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra at the city’s Liederhalle and in Rotterdam, as well as making her debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. At the Théâtre de Caen (France) and the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, she performed the role of Mary in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman; at the Theater St. Gallen (Switzerland), she appeared as Maffio Orsini in Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia and as Amor in Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette. Kismara returned to Brazil to lead the Opera Academy at Theatro São Pedro in São Paulo and has just completed her doctoral thesis at ECA-USP on Hildegard von Bingen. She has also recently been appointed to the Classical Voice faculty at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). This year, she returns to the Teatro Solís to perform the role of Poncia in Miquel Ortega’s opera La Casa de Bernarda Alba and will premiere her musical monologue FEMINA (which she created, scripted, co-directed, and performs) at the OSESP Foundation’s Motiva Cultural series.
