FEMUSC em pauta

Social concerts bring more than 30 classical music performances to hospitals, shopping malls and nursing homes in the second week of Femusc

Highlight for the work that was created especially by a student for the festival’s social concerts. The clarinetist from Brasília Rômulo Melo plays “Dueto for Clarinet and Violin”, at 11 am this Wednesday (22), at the Jaraguá Hospital

The second week of the 20th Santa Catarina International Music Festival (Femusc) once again takes classical music to the community, through more than 30 social concerts in Jaraguá do Sul (SC) and region. The presentations with solos and chamber music take place daily at Shopping Partage Jaraguá do Sul (always at 12:00 and 18:00), at the Home for the Elderly Lar das Flores, and at the Jaraguá and São José Hospitals (restricted to patients and companions, always at 11 am and 3pm).

For Jocimara Rodrigues, from São Bento do Sul, who attended a presentation at the mall with her 1-year-old daughter, the initiative is valuable. “We’re not from here, we came for a walk, and she really enjoyed these songs, which we only listened to on Youtube. It’s important to have it in places like the mall, because it helps in cultural development for all ages”, he highlights.

FEMUSC students who are performing in these locations also explain about the experience of dealing directly with the public in more unusual places. trombonist Ricardo Hernández Cabrera, student of Femusc  and a native of the Dominican Republic, describes the social concerts in one word: proof.  This is because musicians are challenged to play outside the silence of the theaters,  and in places with uncontrollable ambient sound. “When we do concerts in theaters, we are the center of attention. When we are in open places, we need to win over the public, and this is proof to know if the music we are making is good or not. If it is good, people come, stay and like”, he says. “When we see that the public is enjoying it as much as in a theater, we take responsibility for not letting anything disturb us.”

The student Lucas Nascimento, from Pernambuco who plays in the Recife Symphonic Orchestras and João Pessoa Symphony, taking classical music to the public is a way of spreading education. “Many people think classical music is boring, but in the end it gets emotional in a totally unexpected way.”

The young Rômulo Mello, clarinetist from Brasília, composed the work “Trio de Palhetas” especially for Femusc, with the aim of presenting at the festival’s social concerts. As soon as he was selected for the event, he created a short and light piece to play. “I wanted to write something light that would fit people’s day at the hospital spontaneously”, he recalls. Rômulo presents “Dueto for Clarinet and Violin”, another authorial composition, at 11 am this Wednesday (22), at Hospital Jaraguá.
