Show in honor of Elis Regina opens the 20th edition of FEMUSC

The Festival’s MPB Center prepared a complete program to remember the eternal “Pimentinha”, recognized as one of the greatest voices in Brazil and which would turn 80 in 2025

The 20th edition of the Santa Catarina International Music Festival (Femusc) presents a tribute to the singer Elis Regina, considered one of the greatest voices in Brazil. the tribute to the eternal “Pimentinha”, which would have turned 80 in 2025,  The festival opens on Sunday, January 12th, from 8:30 pm.  FEMUSC, the largest school festival in Latin America, takes place in Jaraguá do Sul (SC), from January 12th to 25th.

According to the pianist and coordinator of the FEMUSC MPB Center, Marcelo Ghelfi, responsible for the Brazilian festival’s programming,  The tribute will begin with a song performed by the event’s orchestra, very linked  to the career of Elis Regina.  “An instrumental song, but I won’t say what it is,  it’s a secret”, jokes Ghelfi, who reveals only two of  Songs from the show,  “O Boto”, by Tom Jobim, E  “Ossanha Canto”, by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes.

The forecast is that about eight songs from the repertoire of Elis Regina will be part of the show, which will have the singer Livia Nestrovski as the main interpreter. 

Ghelfi also adds that the many phases of Elis will be included in the show. “We tried to make a balance so that the various composers were remembered. This gives this diversity, very important for the scope of the opening of a festival like Femusc”, he says. “Many people became famous for having been recorded by Elis, as the composer Renato Teixeira,  author of “Romaria”, for example, a classic in the artist’s voice”, he explains.

for the tribute, in addition to Ghelfi (piano), who makes the musical direction and arrangement of all the songs of the tribute, and the singer Livia Nestrovski,  Daniela Spielmann (Sopros), Toninho Ferragutti (Acordon), Dino Barioni (guitar), Marinho Andreotti (bass) and Ramon Montagner (drums) take the stage.  The seven are part of the team of teachers dos  40 students participating in the FEMUSC MPB Center. Students perform daily, from Monday to Friday,  at SCAR, the main Jaraguense cultural center.   “There will be ten shows in total, and, of course, with many songs by Elis Regina forecasting in all of them”, concludes Ghelfi.

One of the most important moments of the Femusc&NBSP MPB; will be  Due to the participation of guitarist Guinga, one of the great composers of contemporary popular music. The artist will pay his own tribute to Elis Regina during his participation in the opening show of the MPB students. Guinga will interpret  The authorial song  “Bolero de Satan”, recorded by Elis on the LP “Essa Mulher”.  The show takes place on Saturday  (18) In the Grand Auditorium Scar.

with a repertoire of around 300 songs recorded by names such as Francis Hime, Ivan Lins and Clara Nunes, in addition to Elis Regina herself,  Guinga will also offer two days of exclusive workshops on Femusc’s Brazilian popular music program. 

This is the second time that the festival’s MPB program promotes the presence of a renowned star to enrich the experience of the participants. In 2023, the festival received Renato Borghetti. Known for mixing folklore and modernity in the compositions, Borghetti presented, for a crowded audience, different readings of music works from Rio Grande do Sul, adding influences from other Brazilian and international styles.

In 2025, FEMUSC presents more than 400 works.  In addition to concerts and MPB shows, the festival brings back the rope quartet program. The long-awaited opera program will include the classic “Madama Butterfly” by Puccini and the opening of an opera by the Jaraguan composer Ático Rubini. 

The shows take place mainly at Scar, but they also fulfill a social itinerary in schools, hospitals and penitentiaries.
