Santa Cecília Mass Concert is featured at FEMUSC 2022

The series Grand Concerts of the FEMUSC International Festival featured, this Monday, the presentation of the work “Missa de Santa Cecilia: Kyrie, Gloria, Agnus Dei”, by the priest, conductor, multi-instrumentalist and Brazilian composer José Mauricio Nunes Garcia. The composition was conducted by conductor Ricardo Kanji and was presented with old instruments and accompanied by fifteen voices of students and teachers who participate in the festival.
The evening show was dedicated to Brazilian classical music and also to MPB with works by composers such as Ernesto Nazaré, Pixinguinha and Heitor Villa-Lobos.
Between one presentation and another, the teachers of the MPB course Marcelo Ghelfi, Marinho Andreotti and Edu Ribeiro told stories about the Modern Art Week and explained details about the use of some musical instruments.
There was also the presentation of one of the best-known classic compositions in the world, Bachianas Brasileiras n.5 – Cantilena, by Heitor Villa Lobos. The famous aria over text by Ruth Valadares Corrêa was composed in 1938, and premiered in 1939 (RJ), under the regency of Villa-Lobos itself.
The presentation, which was broadcast live, is now available and can be followed by the FEMUSC profile on Youtube:

MPB and Chamber Recitals
The MPB series of the FEMUSC International Festival started in a different way this Monday (24). This time, the erudite universe strolled through the presentation: the lyrical singing student, the soprano Mariana de Araújo, played the “song of love” by Heitor Villa-Lobos, with Matheus Alborghetti, on the piano.
Then, MPB took the stage with the participation of eleven students from the instrumental who played “Cabaceira Mon Amour” by Sivuca, one of the great representatives of Brazilian music abroad. The presentation continued with several songs such as “Incompatibility of Geniuses”, by João Bosco and Aldir Blanc; “Dona Mariquinha, from Grupo A Barca; and “Reconvex” by Caetano Veloso, in the voice of Edinho Vilas Boas accompanied by the guitar teacher Dino Barione. “Tico Tico no Fubá”, by Zequinha de Abreu, ended the show.

In the presentation of the Chamber Recitals, which takes place every day at 7 pm, the work of “Sancta Mater Istud Agas” is highlighted, by Giovanni Battista Pergoles, which shows details of Maria’s suffering when she sees Jesus being crucified. The concert was conducted by student Fábio Leite and accompaniment by two other singing students, the sopranos Mariana Gomes and Lívia Ribeiro.
The presentations continue until next Saturday, 01/29, and free tickets must be picked up 48 hours in advance.
