Erkin Yusoupov was born in 1975 in Tashkent. He began studying music in 1984 in St. Petersburg. In 1992, he moved to Moscow, where he continued his studies in the class of Professor Skobelev, under whose guidance he graduated from the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory of Moscow in 2000 and in the Graduate Program of the State Conservatory of Moscow in 2002.
As a student, Erkin was approved in 1996 in the contest for the State Symphony Orchestra Jovem Russia, where he worked until 2000. In 2000, the young musician was awarded in the first open competition for interpreters of wind instruments. Rimsky-Korsakov in Saint Petersburg, after which he received an offer to become an artist of the Russian National Orchestra under the direction of Mikhail Pletnev, where he worked until 2003, visiting the US, Japan, China and European countries as part of the orchestra.
In 2003, after being approved in a difficult contest, Yusupov took over as a soloist for the Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia, where he works to this day. He successfully performed famous trombone solos at Ravel’s bolero, the funeral and triumphant symphony of Berlioz, the Wozzeck de Berg opera and many other works. Accompanied by the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra, he performs several works from the trombone repertoire and participates in world broadcasts of operas and ballets from the country’s main theater. In 2004, Erkin was invited to teach the trombone at the Moscow State Conservatory Zhiganov.
In 2006, he began teaching trombone at the Maimônides Academy in Moscow, and later, in 2011, became a full professor at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow, where, in 2018, he received the title of Associate Professor and, later, the academic title of Professor and the position of Head of the Department of Metals and Percussion Instruments. His students and graduates work in the best orchestras in Russia, such as the Russian Bolshoi Theater Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan and many others.
In 2014, Erkin Yusupov, along with the famous Russian pianist Yakov Katsnelson, was awarded at the international chamber duets contest La Primavera in Moscow. In 2018, Yusupov received an invitation to assume the position of professor at the State Pedagogical Institute Schnittke of Moscow. He is a permanent member of the jury of national and international competitions, actively participating in concerts and festivals, both in Russia and abroad. Yusupov is awarded the Ministry of Culture’s award for the Russian Federation of “Best Teacher in the Musical Art Area”.
