Craig Mumm is a former main associate of the Metropolitan Opera orchestra of New York. Mumm began his musical studies with his father, Edward Mumm, a spalla of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He continued his violin studies with Shmuel Ashkenasi, the first violinist of the Vermeer String Quartet.
Mumm recorded extensively by Deutsche Grammaphon, Sony, Naxos and Decca. His 2011 Grammy-nominated piano quintet for piano world debut was warmly praised by The Strad magazine. Mumm is a member of the String faculty at Rutgers University, where he teaches Viola and Chamber Music, in addition to teaching at the Map program of the Juilliard School in New York. In addition, it is part of the faculty of the Orquestra Jovem das Américas, participating in Yoa’s international residences and tours, and the faculty of Femusc, the Santa Catarina Music Festival, Brazil.
The recent international teaching, solo and chamber music performances include residencies in the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras, “El Sistema”, in Caracas, Venezuela, at the Instituto Superior de Música Estado de Veracruz Mexico, Esperanza Azteca-Puebla, Mexico, Colombian Philharmonic, ASM Music Festival in Panama, Sinem, Symphony Orchesta of Liberia, Costa Rica. Mumm acted as a lead guitar at Shostakovich for the Children of Music for Life International at Carnegie Hall.
