Opera, MPB with Jane Duboc and Renato Borghetti and classical music: see the schedule for this weekend at FEMUSC

Shows take place in the Scar auditorium in Jaraguá do Sul (SC) and will be broadcast live throughout Brazil on the festival’s YouTube channel

This weekend, FEMUSC – Santa Catarina International Music Festival, considered the biggest school festival in Latin America, brings a special program, with a series of attractions ranging from an opera that will stage the Passion of Christ, passing through MPB with names like Jane Duboc and Renato Borghetti to classical music concerts. All shows will be broadcast live on the festival’s Youtube channel, always at 8:30 pm.

Today Friday, January 13th, at 8:30 pm, the public will be able to see in the series Grandes Concertos, the first of the three operas of the festival: the staging of the work “A Paixão Segundo São Mateus”, one of the most important contributions by J. S. Bach.

“The work is actually an “oratory”, made to be sung in concert. Infantil (from “Angels”), Apostle Pedro, Pilate”, explains conductor Alex Klein, founder of Femusc.

“A Paixão Segundo São Mateus” will be interpreted by the Barroque Orchestra of Femusc and by the children’s choir of Femusckinho. A curiosity is that for the preciosity of the show, rare instruments will be used, two Oboés from Caccia (hunting oboés), which will come from Russia, and two oboés d’amore, which were printed in 3D in Rio de Janeiro.

One of the most anticipated MPB shows of the 18th edition of the Femusc International Festival, entitled “I have headquarters”, takes place on Saturday, January 14, at 8:30 pm. With the presence of Jane Duboc, Renato Borghetti, and MPB students, the meeting features songs by Gonzaguinha, Dominguinhos, Dorival Caymmi and Tom Jobim. In common, all the songs will talk about water, this important natural resource that needs to be preserved, because, according to the United Nations (UN), the lack of water can affect 5 billion people by 2050.

“I chose the water theme at the show “I have thirst” because from a very early age I worry about preserving the water on the planet, the show will feature songs about our rivers, our sea and the rains. Duboc.

In the repertoire: “Água de Beber”, by Tom Jobim, “I have thirst”, by Dominguinhos, with lyrics by Anastácia and arrangements by Jane Duboc, “Correnteza”, by Tom Jobim and “Indauê Tupã”, by Paulo André and Ruy cheap.

In addition to Jane Duboc (singing and expression), musicians/teachers Renato Borghetti (singing and body expression), Marinho Andreotti (electric and acoustic bass), Ramon Montagner (drums and percussion), Dino Barioni perform. (guitar and strumming strings), Marcelo Ghelfi (piano and keyboards), Daniela Spielmann (saxophones and flute).

On Sunday, January 15th, also at 8:30 pm, the series Grandes Concertos features six performances of old music with works by composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Max Bruch, Antonio Vivaldi, Franz Joseph Haydn, among others.

Max Bruch’s work will be presented by the “Project Serioso”, a group of 16 young virtuous musicians handpicked by professors Richard Young and Richard Roberts, who together do an exceptional job at Femusc.

Among the attractions, Canadian violist Marc Destrubé presents the suite of “Leurope Galante”, by André Campra.

Sunday’s concert will also feature the presentation of the 3 winners of the Young Soloists of Femusc 2023: Lucas Debortoli (Flute Doce), Gabriel Alves (Traverso) and Calíope Corrêa (Baroque cello).

The public will also be able to check out the concert for Clarinet and Orchestra K622, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, one of Mozart’s last complete works, and his last purely instrumental work.

FEMUSC 2023 is held from January 8 to 28, in Jaraguá do Sul, SC. 900 musicians and students from Brazil and other 32 countries participate in the festival and perform approximately 200 presentations in different parts of the city.

Conceived by conductor Alex Klein, the festival features renowned musicians such as Simon Bernardini, a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra; Violinist Débora Wanderley, singer Jane Duboc, gaucho accordionist Renato Borghetti, among others.

The program features formal concerts, chamber music, symphonic orchestras, popular music shows and three operas, set up exclusively for the festival.
