First Women’s Orchestra of Brazil performs free of charge this Tuesday (14) at the 20th FEMUSC

Ladies Ensemble from Curitiba play a concert on the Silk Road; The event also features a chat about the biography of Brazilian composer and pianist Amélia Brandão Nery, known as Tia Amélia. Presentations will be broadcast live on Youtube

This Tuesday (14), the musicians of the first women’s orchestra of Brazil, Ladies Ensemble, present the concert “Silk Route”  during  20th FEMUSC, the Santa Catarina International Music Festival, which runs until January 25, in Jaraguá do Sul. connected through this historical route. The concert starts at 8:30 pm at the Grande Teatro da SCAR – Centro Cultural and will be broadcast live on the Instituto Femusc YouTube channel.

The Silk Road, a route from Europe to Asia through the Middle East, connected civilizations by exchanging goods, ideas and cultures. In these commercial caravans, musicians also traveled, promoting dialogue between different melodic traditions. In the show, the Ladies Ensemble orchestra explores these paths, with compositions that evoke traditions from different peoples.

During the performance, singer Lucia Loxca will connect her story as a Syrian refugee to the cultural wealth of the Silk Road. Born in Aleppo, a city also marked by the old trade routes, Lucia will interpret songs that reflect the diversity of peoples who crossed these paths, celebrating the cultural and historical integration they represent.

“In addition to the  commercialization of silk itself and spices, the route provided the exchange of culture because people knew each other there and a lot of cultural wealth came out of it. Ladies Ensemble is always behind  enriching our audience not only musically, but also culturally, Epxlica Fabíola Bach Akel, founder of the orchestra. 

The concert features traditional compositions from Turkey, Syria, Armenia, China, Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, Azerbaijan and Algeria E  It will be closed with the work The dance takes place in Lavrio-de Manos Hadjidákis, representing Greece.

The Curitiba graduated, 15 years ago, the Ladies Ensemble, with the aim of achieving, at each presentation, A  expansion of the presence of women in music.

Homage to the Brazilian pianist “Atia Amélia”

This Tuesday’s program, 14, also includes a lecture by the writer Jeanne de Castro on the history of Brazilian composer and pianist Amélia Brandão Nery, known as Tia Amélia. 

in honor  also to the composer, the coordinator of the MPB course at FEMUSC,  Marcelo Ghelfi, will present a special version for “Bordões in the Moonlight”, with an arrangement of his own. 

On the day’s schedule, conductor Alex Klein highlights: “This whole night – the Springmann moment about “Tia Amélia”, connected to the great Ladies Ensemble concert – deals with the female presence in the arts and the conquest of its place in the sun.”

Great Concert Series

At the Santa Catarina International Music Festival, every night is closed with great concerts. This Monday (13), the concert of nations took place, in which musicians of different nationalities presented their own cultures to FEMUSC, interpreting from typical songs to their cultures  to international successes. 

The presentation of Argentina, for example, featured the violist Sabrina Soledad, who is at Femusc for the first time. “For me, it is super important to be here, to represent not only my ancestry, jumps, but also Argentina. played at the concert of nations,” she says.

The night celebrated the cultural diversity with outstanding presentations by the students. Italy brought the success Volare, Mexico presented its national anthem and Peru stood out with harp, regency and opera. Representations from Costa Rica, Uruguay and Paraguay also thrilled the public. From São Tomé and Príncipe, the trumpeter Clismar Carvalho played with two Brazilians, and the quintet of Mozambique paid tribute to a fellow musician. The stage was taken over by numerous flags, symbolizing the integration of the festival.
