The main school festival in the country brings great names in music and more than 200 shows that will be live live worldwide
Between the 8th and 28th of January, Jaraguá do Sul, in the north of Santa Catarina, is the stage of FEMUSC – Santa Catarina International Music Festival, considered the largest school festival in Latin America. In its 18th edition, the event, which opens the cultural calendar of the state, will celebrate the meeting between the erudite and the popular, bringing together great names from the national and international scene.
A cast of renowned teachers from different regions of Brazil and abroad, teaching programs that serve from the little ones to the most mature, and free concerts that take place in different parts of the city, make the festival a differentiated event, and a true legacy for the entire region. Femusc moves tourism, makes the economy spin, generates jobs and income, and spreads art and culture through the four corners of the city, promoting the professional training of the musicians involved and, providing unique moments to the public.
In total, there are 86 teachers, 40 of which are foreigners, who go to Jaraguá do Sul to share knowledge and multiply experiences. Names such as conductor Roberto Duarte, violinist Simon Bernardini and the instrumentalist, Renato Borghetti (MPB), are among the highlights of this edition.
The grandeur of FEMUSC can also be represented through the numbers planned for 2023. According to the organizers, there are already more than 1,200 students registered – from Brazil and from another 32 countries – three weeks of activities and more than 200 presentations. “There is nothing like Femusc. It goes beyond music. It is a humanitarian project”, highlights conductor Alex Klein, one of the main oboists of today, winner of the “Grammy” in classical music and, creator of the festival.

Tributes Vinicius de Moraes, Ary Barroso and Waldir Azevedo
On the opening night, scheduled for Sunday, the 8th, a special show will honor three very important composers for the history of Brazilian popular music who would complete special dates in 2023. They are: Waldir Azevedo (100 years old), Vinícius de Moraes (110 years old) and Ary Barroso (120 years old).
In the twenty days of shows, the program should also feature the traditional concert of the nations, when musicians of different nationalities take the stage praising their own culture, a presentation by the FEMUSC symphony orchestra, and three operas, set up exclusively for the festival, in addition to the Classes, workshops and concerts in various public places and city entities.
All presentations have free admission, upon advance collection of tickets, and the great shows will be broadcast live, in high definition, by the festival’s Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/institutofemusc.
social contribution
For many people, the event represents a first contact with music and even the discovery of passion for a new instrument. This is because, in parallel with the Femusc programming, Femusckinho takes place, aimed at children’s youth, aged 6 to 12. Choral singing, body percussion and violin classes are offered. In two weeks, even children without any musical knowledge, present their first concert as an orchestra participant. This year, about 80 children are expected to participate in the initiative.
At Femusc Jovem, another 80 participants, aged 12 to 17, will have the opportunity to experience contact with music. And, in this edition, a novelty: Femusc Jaraguá, a program aimed at young people from the city from 17 years old. Activities aimed at this public reinforce the social counterpart of FEMUSC.
Registration for Femusckinho, Femusc Jovem and Femusc Jaraguá will take place from December 3rd, Saturday, through the Femusc website: https://www.femusc.com.br/
