20th edition of FEMUSC honors the North and Northeast of Brazil

The Santa Catarina Music Festival, which runs until January 25, will present, for example, works by the Pernambuco pianist Marlos Nobre this Friday (17th) and will have the carimbó, rhythm from Pará, present during the MPB presentation next week

The Santa Catarina Music Festival will honor the music of the North and Northeast of Brazil during the twentieth edition, which takes place in Jaraguá do Sul. (1939-2024), who died last December.

The award-winning pianist, conductor and composer from Recife occupied the chair nº 1 of the Brazilian Academy of Music and composed works such as Os Ciclos Nordestinos (1963-1977). At FEMUSC, the first three cycles will be celebrated in the Guitar Plus series, which starts at 6 pm in the SCAR Multipurpose Room 1 – Centro Cultural da Cidade Catarinense. The tribute will be played by a pair of guitarists: Chapecoense Leonardo Mueller, winner of the last Guitar Contest in Teresina, in Piauí, and Costa Rican Juan José Alpizar Rodriguez, from the University of North Texas, from the University of North Texas.

Carimbó, a rhythm created in Pará, will be performed by flutist student Ewerton Gledison Lopes Neves, from Marapanim, who will show the musical genre during the MPB presentation next week.

Northeastern on the ropes

In the next few days of Femusc, the musicians from Potiguars from the Quarteto Alvorada also give life to Northeastern compositions in violin, viola and cello. The group performs in the series Momento Springmann (SCAR – Pequeno Teatro), starting at 7 pm next Tuesday, the 21st,  with the work  Three northeastern pieces, by Clóvis Pereira.

“Clóvis Pereira is a composer from Pernambuco who was the founder of the Armorial Movement together with Ariano Suassuna. We chose once again to bring a work that was from the northeast and escape the traditional”, explains Malu Sabar, the group’s violinist.

the repertoire chosen by the group  It also includes quartet nº 3 “Presente”, by the potiguar Hiago Albuquerque – this one, which is also present at the 20th FEMUSC.

In this edition of FEMUSC, which has 350 students from 27 countries, in addition to Brazil, students from Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Amazonas, Pará and Roraima are present at the Festival Students of Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte. The festival runs until January 25 in Jaraguá do Sul (SC) and has attractions broadcast live on Youtube.

The series Grandes Concertos e Momento Springmann, from Femusc 2025, are being broadcast daily live, at 7:00 pm and at 8:30 pm, on the official YouTube channel: Instituto Femusc.

The concert videos will also be available on the platform after the event, expanding virtual access to the largest classical music festival-school in Latin America.
